Life area "good home" in first place

For 68 percent of the Germans, a good home is more important than leisure, cars, holidays, the Internet and clothing. The living room is their feelgood space (61%), while the bedroom is reserved for intimacy (68%), reading (65%) and conversations (49%). When it comes to furnishing, almost everyone follows his or her own taste, and when purchasing furniture, functionality (62%) and longevity (57%) count more than the price and the design.

Regardless of income: good living is the most important area of life

With leisure in second place – following living at home – the Germans have once again voted in favour of a private area of life. Higher earners (monthly household income over €2,500) place more value on cars and holidays. In low-income households (up to €1,000 per month), clothing is more important.

Women live more softly

When voting on the importance of a "good home", Germany's women are ahead of the men with 73 percent compared to 64 percent. Both sexes place the highest feelgood factor in the living room. Once there, it's a different story: women want curtains, men prefer a hi-fi system.

Living behaviour through the generations

The importance of a good home increases with age: 61 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds consider it to be very important, among the 40 to 49-year-olds the figure is 64 percent, and among the over 60-year-olds it is even 80 percent. In second place for all generations is leisure – ahead of cars, computers and the Internet. Cars hold little fascination.
